Peach and Pear Crisp

Crumbly fruit crisps are one of those staple desserts that remind us all of home. Whether you’re a kid or an adult this delectable desert will make you feel like you are at Grandma’s house!

Recipe:
1 large can (106 OZ / 3kg) of sliced peaches in syrup
1 large can (106 OZ / 3kg) of sliced pears in syrup
3 cups of quick oats
1 cup of loosely packed brown sugar
¾ cup of semi-salted butter. Slightly cool so it can be cut into cubes. (It may sound like a lot of butter, but it’s a rather large recipe!)

Method:
Preheat the oven to 420 degrees (F). In a mixing bowl add the quick oats and brown sugar and mix well. Mix in the cubed butter with a pastry cutter (if you don’t have a pastry cutter you can use a potato masher or a fork). Mix until the mixture becomes crumbly. Line the bottom of a baking dish with some of the crumble mixture. Drain the can peaches (conserve the juice or syrup) and add the peaches over the layer of crumble. Add another layer of crumble. Drain the can pears (conserve the juice or syrup) and add them over second the layer of crumble. Finally, top everything with the remaining crumble. Bake in the oven for about 25 minutes or until slightly golden. Let cool and serve with ice cream and spoon over some of the conserved syrup from the cans.
