Cats Protection’s Bridgend Adoption Centre has reunited a cat with her happy owner six years after she went missing thanks to a microchip.

Tabby-and-white puss Chloe went missing in 2010 after she jumped from a pet carrier in Caerphilly when her owner Rebecca Lee was taking her for a routine vet appointment.

After living as a stray and being cared for by an elderly woman just over a mile away, Chloe was eventually handed into the Bridgend Adoption Centre where a quick scan of her microchip meant she could finally be reunited with her owner.

Rebecca Lee, who had believed Chloe had died in a road accident, said she was overjoyed to be able to have her back at her home in Caerphilly.

“Chloe jumped from the pet carrier in the car park and we never saw her again,” she said. “I put up posters and placed adverts and shortly after got a call to say a cat matching her description had been found dead by the roadside.

“I was devastated but came to terms with her death. Unbeknown to me at the time, it seems she had wandered as a stray before eventually finding an elderly lady who had taken her in.

“It was a real shock but lovely news to hear that Chloe had been found and was alive and well after so many years.

“I am delighted to be reunited with her and would advise all owners to get their cats microchipped and keep their details up-to-date. I would like to thank the team at Cats Protection for their part in bringing us back together at last.”

Bridgend Adoption Centre Deputy Manager Molly Hughes said Chloe had been brought in by the family of the elderly woman who had become too frail to care for her.

“We scanned Chloe, which is routine for all cats coming into our care and our receptionist noticed she was registered to a different owner and address,” Molly said. “We managed to get hold of Rebecca, Chloe’s original owner, who was shocked to hear from us that Chloe was in our care.”

“Chloe was nervous with us but she was very happy to see Rebecca and started rolling over and purring when she saw her.

“It’s great to have been able to reunite Chloe with her family, and it was touching to see them together.

“Chloe’s story goes to show why microchipping is so important and how effective it is. However, just as important as having your cat microchipped is keeping the details up-to-date. We often have microchipped cats come into our care and are sadly unable to reunite them with their owners because the contact details on the database are incorrect.”

June is National Microchipping Month where we’re championing the microchipping of pet cats. Is your cat microchipped? Vets, local authorities and trained and insured members of animal welfare organisations may offer microchipping. Find out more in our Microchipping Essential Guide leaflet.

A little kindness can go a long way towards erasing cruelty.

Bubbie the cat was rescued from a feral colony in 2014 after presumably being thrown out by his previous owners once he started spraying because he wasn’t neutered. If that wasn’t enough, during his time on the street he suffered a gash on his neck that resulted in a potentially life-threatening abscess.

Luckily for Bubbie, however, he ended up in the care of Liz Cabral, who’s been helping rescue street cats since 2010. Liz took Bubbie to the Toronto Humane Society where he was fixed and had the abscess treated. She then brought him home for a lengthy recovery, which in the short-term involved getting him cleaned up and giving him regular medicine and in the long-term involved putting some weight on his bones, since he had become quite emaciated.

“He was in really rough shape,” Liz said. “He was quite dirty and injured and skinny.”

Iggy has a bad neck infection

It didn’t take long for Bubbie to show his appreciation for the care he was receiving.

“Within a day or a day and a half, he started showing signs of being friendly,” Liz said. “He was rolling around on his back and then I started giving him treats through the crate. And then he started taking the treats right from my hand.

“He was such a loving, good-natured cat.”

Iggy in his foster home

This was no feral kitty: Bubbie was ready to be part of a family again. And he eventually found his permanent human companion in Joyce Singh, who discovered Bubbie at an adopt-a-thon thanks to a touch of kismet.

“I had never owned a cat on my own before, so I was so hesitant to commit to one,” said Joyce.“I just kept wandering around and it got to the point where almost all the cats were gone…So there were only three cats left and he was just sitting in his cage, chillin’. He looked calm, so I chose him and I took him home and he adapted really well.”

Bubbie now has a loving home

That’s an understatement. Within a half hour, Bubbie was exploring his new abode and eating. And since those early days the two have developed an inseparable bond.

“He’s just super-affectionate, cuddly and friendly… when I get home from work, first it’s time for food, then he insists I go and lay on my bed with him.”

Joyce having had no idea about Bubbie’s ordeal, and only learning about it when told during our conversation for this feature, truly speaks to the excellent work done by Liz.

“I had never even seen or felt the scar,” Joyce said.

lucky Bubbie!

And there you have it. Thanks to the kindness shown by Liz and Joyce, the cruelty suffered by one lucky, special cat can be forgotten, replaced with happy memories from a loving home.

some Team ACR members

Last year was our first participating in the Charity Challenge. We were bowled over by the enthusiastic response from our supporters and team members! In addition to the money raised, for which we (and ACR kitties) were very grateful, we genuinely had a great time doing the race and invite you to join our team for 2016! There is room for both casual walkers and dedicated runners. Children accompanied by adults are welcome! Not only will it be fun and for a great cause, but you’ll get a one-of-a-kind ACR team t-shirt and meet some nice people. There will even be prizes. Any team member who raises at least $150 for ACR will have their race registration fee reimbursed after the race.

Most of us are doing the 5k walk but you can run the 5k, Half-Marathon (21.1k) or Marathon (42.2k). It’s up to you!

Every Team ACR member will receive a special ACR T-shirt and there will be prizes in several categories (e.g., top fundraisers, best costume, etc.).
To join our team, please email Joanna at joannar@annexcatrescue.org so she can get you placed on our team. ***Note: you MUST register for the race using Annex Cat Rescue’s charity discount code in order for us to reimburse the fee.

Real Neko Atsume Cats

I know there’s already a similar post floating around, but I had already planned on making my own, and I had very specific breed headcanons! Also, this one includes the most recent cats :3
